Akela Constructions has won a prestigious Gold Coast Housing and Construction Award for Excellence in Energy Efficiency and Environmental Management hosted by Master Builders Queensland. The award was for the design and construction of new amenities at South Currigee Campgrounds for City of Gold Coast. The South Stradbroke facilities are surrounded by virtually untouched native bushland and bordered by 22km of surf beach and calm waterways. The brief was to design and construct simplistic and functional amenities appropriate for a remote, nature reserve with minimal impact to the natural landscape. To achieve this, Akela needed to carefully evaluate design and build strategies to develop innovative environmental solutions both achievable and practical for an island- based construction.

Akela’s custom build optimised the function and amenity of the built structure and honoured the natural surrounds requiring lower ongoing maintenance.
The new amenities allow the community and visitors to more comfortably appreciate and enjoy the unspoilt beauty of one of the Gold Coast's most beloved, naturalistic destinations.
